Nobel laureate Erwin Schrodinger's What is Life? is one of the great science classics of the twentieth century. A distinguished physicist's exploration of the question which lies at the heart of biology, it was written for the layman, but proved one of the spurs to the birth of molecular bi...[more]

What is HermeticResearch.Org?

To know what this site is all about, one must first understand the opposite:

Hermetic Research is not an initiatic school. It's not a religion. It's not a sect. It's not a secret society. It's not a conspiracy group, nor does it seek to diffuse conspiracy theories. It's not a place where there are Masters and followers. It's not a place to establish any kind of hierarchy. Nor is it a place to gain power or status. The goals of Hermetic Research are not to start a revolution of any kind against anything; nor to establish any kind of dogma.

Hermetic Research is about Freedom and Truth; it's about having the freedom of mind for everyone to seek their own Truth. It's goals are not to spread "A" light, but to awaken the light that lies inside each of us. It is not meant to offer certainties but to provide inspiration for those who want to pursue them.

Hermetic Research is meant to be a tool, a way, made by everyone *for* everyone.

Thank you and Welcome to HermeticResearch.Org!

New Scientist explores the how the brain makes you believe you are feeling something that isn't real, such as a "rubber hand" and to a great extent explains various experiences described by people who do meditation like Out of Body Experiences. A great and interesting read.

The UK is debating in parliament the implementation of a replacement law for the Fraudulent Mediums Act 1951 which would mean all paid-for paranormal activities would be covered by the Consumer Protection Regulations.
The Consumer Protection Regulations would require all professional spiritualists to prove what they do. And we all know that's not going to be a tall order...

From The Times
September 25, 2007
Acupuncture works better than conventional treatments in reducing lower back pain, according to researchers in Germany.

But so does fake acupuncture, where the needles are inserted shallowly and in the wrong places. In a trial of more than 1,100 people, both were almost twice as effective as a combination of drugs, physiotherapy and exercise.

Science

New Scientist, the respected US-based scientific magazine, recently published the results of two separate experiences that indicate OOB-type experiences are 'all in the mind' and do not really exist.

From http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn12531-outofbody-experiences-are-all-in-the-mind.html :

By deliberately scrambling a person's visual and tactile senses, it is now possible to give them an "out-of-body" experience.

Two procedures – which are the first to imitate an out-of-body experience artificially – use cameras to fool people into thinking they are standing or sitting somewhere else in a room. They provide the strongest proof yet that people only imagine floating out of their bodies during surgery or near-death experiences.

By Kevin Poulsen, (C) Wired News

If you're an undiscovered psychic, soothsayer, dowser or medium, time may be running out for you to put your supernatural powers to the test and claim a million dollar prize.

But you already knew that, didn't you?

Ten years after stage magician and avowed skeptic James Randi first offered a seven-figure payday to anyone capable of demonstrating paranormal phenomenon under scientific scrutiny, the 79-year-old clear-eyed curmudgeon is revising the rules of his nonprofit foundation's Million Dollar Challenge to better target high-profile charlatans, and spend less time on unknown psychics, who too often turn out to be delusional instead of deceptive.

Reuters reports the teenage boy as reappeared recently after months without being seen.

KATHMANDU (Reuters) - A mysterious teenaged boy believed by some to be a reincarnation of Lord Buddha has reappeared in eastern Nepal after vanishing for nine months, a witness and a television channel said on Monday.

Sixteen-year-old Ram Bahadur Bamjon was spotted on Sunday by villagers in the remote and dense forests near Piluwa village in Bara district, 150 km (95 miles) east of Kathmandu, local journalist Raju Shrestha, who visited the boy, told Reuters.

Yet another great essay from our favourite author William Mistele:

In this essay, I explore the akasha—the realm of light--surrounding nine different planetary spheres. This is slightly different for me in that I usually first and foremost work with a spirit. In this case, however, I am seeking a more personal understanding of the qualities of the different planets. It is a getting acquainted exercise.
